WHAT THE HELL IS PROJECT MANAGEMENT, ANYWAY?

Project management seems like a classic chicken-and-egg career conundrum: How do you prove you’re adept at managing projects if you haven’t worked as a project manager? Beyond that, what does project management really entail, and how is it different from, you know, being a manager? And what tools do the pros actually use, since there seem to be a new one released every week?

“PROJECT MANAGEMENT” CAN SOUND LIKE EVERYTHING AND NOTHING ALL AT ONCE. WE SPOKE WITH A PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRO TO CLARIFY WHAT IT REALLY MEANS TO GET PEOPLE MOVING IN THE SAME DIRECTION.

To better understand some of the managerial speak around project management, I spoke with a 20-year veteran of the field, Frank Ryle. He’s worked as an international project manager for Arup International, managed construction and operation of the first Cadbury Schweppes factory in Russia, and now trains and teaches project management. Ryle analogizes project management to a nine-hole golf metaphor in his book, Keeping Score: Project Management for the Pros, available now as an ebook and due out soon in paperback.

Most-Used Smartphone App in 2013

Most-Used Smartphone App

Google Maps shown a huge response in delivering their service. They got the tittle of The Most-Used Smartphone App in quarter 2013 shown by Statista. According to data published by GlobalWebIndex, 54 percent of global smartphone owners used Google’s navigation app in the month preceding the survey. As per my earlier post about Google Maps, the Google Maps application has several function that is very useful for our daily life.

Google’s decision to develop an open source mobile operating system and give it away for free apparently pays off. Android’s market share in the smartphone market recently soared above 70 percent and since Android phones come preloaded with several Google apps, the search company controls a significant share of mobile web usage.

So, What’s your favorite apps?

How To Optimize Google Maps in Your Daily Life

I believe you all know what Google Maps technology is. There are several functions out there that will help you out in your daily life. I currently use HTC One with Android JellyBean 4.2.2 as my daily smartphone to help me several things. Google Maps have such functions like traffic, navigation, places or else. Traffic jam is such my daily problem when to go outside, especially in Jakarta where I lived in.

Google Maps has recently updated their mobile application version for android. The new Google Maps app has a simplified interface that focuses on the map. It has a lot of things in common with the new Google Maps for desktop, including the missing features. For now, there’s no support for My Maps (it will be added later), many layers are missing, Labs features are no longer available. Map caching is now a hidden feature: type “OK maps” in the search box and the app will pre-load the map you’re currently viewing. Google Latitude has been discontinued and replaced by a Google+ feature. In my limited testing, the app was pretty slow and laggy, so Google still has some work to do to optimize the app. Continue reading

Will Smart Machine Create a World without Work?

Paul Wiseman and Bernard Condon, The Associated Press, Washington | World | Fri, January 25 2013, 12:22 PM

They seem right out of a Hollywood fantasy, and they are: Cars that drive themselves have appeared in movies like “I, Robot” and the television show “Knight Rider.”

Now, three years after Google invented one, automated cars could be on their way to a freeway near you. In the US, California and other states are rewriting the rules of the road to make way for driverless cars. Just one problem: What happens to the millions of people who make a living driving cars and trucks —jobs that always have seemed sheltered from the onslaught of technology?

“All those jobs are going to disappear in the next 25 years,” predicts Moshe Vardi, a computer scientist at Rice University in Houston. “Driving by people will look quaint; it will look like a horse and buggy.”

If automation can unseat bus drivers, urban deliverymen, long-haul truckers, even cabbies, is any job safe?

Vardi poses an equally scary question: “Are we prepared for an economy in which 50 percent of people aren’t working?”

The Death of Call Center??

The rapid growth of smartphone adoption is changing every facet of our lives. From Siri, Apple’s virtual personal assistant, to the thousands of mobile applications that entertain and educate us, we have become an always-connected society.

Pew Internet & American Life Project reported that smartphone users have now surpassed basic phone users. Gartner predicts that mobile phones will overtake PCs as the most common web access devices worldwide. WiFi is so widely available in major metropolitan areas that most tablet users don’t even need wireless data plans. Finally, tablet sales grew 264% in 2011 over the previous year, and this year, Yankee Group predicts the sale of almost 25 million tablets in the U.S. alone.

What does this data mean for companies looking to engage with a connected audience? Consumers are now demanding communication with their providers, on their terms, which in most cases, means through their connected devices.

What does this mean for the call center? Well, it will cease to be the primary interaction channel between companies and their customers. The smartphone will become the contact center of the future.

It won’t happen all at once, and certainly not everyone will prefer this channel. However, both consumers and businesses will benefit significantly, leading to a major communication shift by the end of 2012.

Mobile Gaming ‘Android’??

image

image

We have experienced the smartphones function to help us in our real life. The joy does not stop here yet. As I use Android phones about a year later, which was the glorious day of android 2.1 eclair version, there were some games to fulfill our needs. Some funny games that wasn’t exist in the era of windows mobile edition. Some use accelerometer in handling games and much more intuitive games are provided.

In recent years, android games has grown a massive improvement in graphic performance. They also require some memory to be downloaded as a game file for about more than 100mb more. Some games has an awesome graphic performance since the android phones nowadays have the ability to run this game. Their hardware are also growing and some known PC or console games has made some mobile gaming too.

image

The above screenshot is a shadowgun which has a very nice graphic performace for mobile gaming. I really enjoy playing this games. You can refer to this link : https://market.android.com/details?id=com.madfingergames.shadowgun

There are so many games out there with good graphic performance. You can try ‘Dead Space’, Sprinkle, PES 2012, Plants vs Zombie, Anomaly HD, Real Steel, etc. Maybe you can share some games for me to play too. Android rocks!!

The Google+ Project, Is it the new Facebook rival??

One of the most sophisticated project newly presented by Google in the social media to defeat their rival in this kind of industry, Facebook, is a Google + project. Google has some project that is presented but failed to meet the consumer requirement, The Google Buzz is definitely can’t find it’s way in delivering the message of social media.

Google has some achievement in mobile devices too, Android, that they will implement this new project to it. What are they plus?? What makes them different from Facebook, Friendster, and Twitter?? Or maybe they are only just another improvement like Facebook from Friendster??

Self-Driven Google Car

Google once again amazed me with the video published in youtube where a modified Toyota Prius Car automatically. They are making another innovation with the implementation of software and hardware connected to a car that can drive with some sensors. They have been developing technology for cars that can drive themselves. Our automated cars, manned by trained operators, just drove from our Mountain View campus to our Santa Monica office and on to Hollywood Boulevard. They’ve driven down Lombard Street, crossed the Golden Gate bridge, navigated the Pacific Coast Highway, and even made it all the way around Lake Tahoe.

The automated cars use video cameras, radar sensors and a laser range finder to “see” other traffic, as well as detailed maps (which we collect using manually driven vehicles) to navigate the road ahead. This is all made possible by Google’s data centers, which can process the enormous amounts of information gathered by our cars when mapping their terrain.

To develop this technology, we gathered some of the very best engineers from the DARPA Challenges, a series of autonomous vehicle races organized by the U.S. Government. Chris Urmson was the technical team leader of the CMU team that won the 2007 Urban Challenge. Mike Montemerlo was the software lead for the Stanford team that won the 2005 Grand Challenge. Also on the team is Anthony Levandowski, who built the world’s first autonomous motorcycle that participated in a DARPA Grand Challenge, and who also built a modified Prius that delivered pizza without a person inside. The work of these and other engineers on the team is on display in the National Museum of American History.

I am hoping with the testing of these kind of technology will provide us a better future in reducing a car accident, pollution, fuel consumption, etc. I hope some new ‘smart car’ will help human to a better future. In mass production will reduce the cost of engineering, will it be publicly provided to us? We’ll se soon.

The Implementation of the Not and And gates using only the Nand gate.

The book’s said that The NAnd Function has an interesting theoretical property : Each one of the operations And, Or, and Not can be constructed from it, and it alone. Since every Boolean function can be constructed from And, Or, and Not operations using the canonical representation method, it follows that every Boolean function can be constructed from Nand operations alone.
Some of the logic gates presented here are typically referred to as ‘‘elementary’’ or ‘‘basic.’’ At the same time, every one of them can be composed from Nand gates alone. Therefore, they need not be viewed as primitive. Due to this property, NAND and NOR gates are sometimes called “universal gates”. Continue reading
